On Sunday night, the 22-year-old singer-songwriter and her brother-collaborator Finneas O’Connell, 26-years-old made history by breaking an 87-year-old industry record. They became the youngest two-time ever to win Oscars, surpassing the mark previously held by Luise Rainer, who was 28 when she won her second Oscar. The siblings won their second Academy Award for their contributions to the soundtrack of the “Barbie” film with their song “What Was I Made For?”

Barbie had two tracks nominated for the Oscars. One of the nominated songs was “What Was I Made For?” The other was “I’m Just Ken,” a comic lament sung by Ryan Gosling. The song was written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who are both previous Oscar winners (Shallow” for the 2018 movie A Star Is Born).

During her acceptance speech, she said, “I feel so incredibly lucky and honored,”. “This goes out to everyone who was affected by the movie and how incredible it is,” she continued. Prior to their win, Eilish and O’Connell performed the song with an orchestra. The track had previously won Song of the Year at the Grammy Awards and was one of the most popular songs of the year at the ceremony.

The brother-sister team had previously won the award for Best Original Song in 2021 for No Time to Die in the James Bond film of the same name starring Daniel Craig.

Eilish and O’Connell have already received a Golden Globe and two Grammys, including the Song of the Year award, as well as honors from the Society of Composers & Lyricists for their song “What Was I Made For?”. The estimated number of streams for the Eilish song is 633 million, significantly higher than the reported 105 million streams for “I’m Just Ken.”
