First look: Netflix’s upcoming series’ Ronja the Robber’s Daughter

Starring Kerstin Linden, Christopher Wagelin, Sverrir Gudnason, Pernilla August and Johan Ulveson.

Ronja the Robbers Daughter

Netflix released the first look for Ronja the Robber’s Daughter, which is based on the world-famous story by Astrid Lindgren.

Lisa James Larsson, nominated for the European Film Award for Best Short Film, directs Ronja the Robber’s Daughter. The series creator is credited to Hans Rosenfeldt, the writer behind “The Bridge” and “Marcella”, and is now part of Netflix’s collection of classic tale adaptations. Produced by Filmlance, with Bonnie Skoog Feeney and Mattias Arehn serving as producers.

The story follows Ronja, a spirited and rebellious girl born into a gang of robbers in a medieval Scandinavian castle. As Ronja grows up, she discovers the magical yet dangerous forest with its strange and mysterious creatures. Rather than feeling scared, she feels more at home in the forest than behind the walls of the huge castle. Ronja’s encounter with a young boy named Birk from a rival gang marks the beginning of a dark family feud, and a forbidden friendship emerges between them. Meanwhile, a notorious bailiff arrives to get rid of the robbers from the forest once and for all.
