GRISELDA REVIEW: Story based on actual events

Sofía Vergara as Griselda Blanco

The Netflix miniseries consists of 6 episodes inspired by actual events from the life story of Griselda Blanco, a drug dealer and a woman of the substance. Unlike the stereotypical portrayal of drug dealers as needy or villainous, the show highlights her intelligence and attention to detail, portraying her as a brilliant woman. The series’ ultimate goal is to depict events showcasing Blanco’s remarkable qualities and her impact on the world around her.

The producer made sure to capture the essence of the era, set in the 70s-80s. Nothing could be less excepted from the team behind ‘Narcos’, and it seems as if the series does justice to its high-budget production with its continued positive response from the audience. It’s impressive that it earned a Rotten Tomatoes score of 88 per cent.

Sofía Vergara, the actress from the TV series “Modern Family”, has shown that she has more acting potential than previously thought through her performance in the limited series “Griselda”. She seamlessly blends into Griselda’s role, and it would not be an overstatement to say that she completely embodied the character. “Griselda” has been marked as Vergara’s career’s highest-rated film or TV series so far. The cast performed very well while talking about the acting, but Vergara still managed to steal the show with her fantastic acting.

Vergara amazingly did her transformation in character across the series. The series begins in late 1970s’ Medellín, Colombia when Griselda is distressed and injured as she rushes into the front door of her well-curated home. She makes a frantic phone call to her friend Carmen, and next, she and her sons safely land in Miami with the help of Carmen and get a warning from him about her past life involving drug games should not continue. But she begins working immediately to sell the kilo of coke she’s smuggled into the country. She built a powerful drug empire and gained the reputation of ‘Cocaine Godmother. A devoted mother, Blanco’s lethal blend of charm and unsuspecting savagery.

The series is directed by Andrés Baiz and produced by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard, the team behind ‘Narcos’. The cast includes Sofía Vergara (Modern Family), Alberto Guerra (The Candidate) and Christian Tappan.
