Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga’s Joker 2 Gets R Rating For ‘Violence And Nudity’

Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix star in the R-rated musical sequel “Joker 2″, which features “some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality and brief full nudity”, according to the MPA daily ratings bulletin. While the 2019 “Joker” was known for its violent content, the sequel is anticipated to focus more on extreme language and sexuality. It is set to hit theaters on October 4 from Warner Bros. Pictures.

A new poster for “Joker 2″ aired, featuring Joaquin Pheonix and Lady Gaga in a romantic dance pose under the moonlight. With this, Warner Bros. also announced the launch date of the first official trailer, which will be released on April 9. The sequel, directed by Todd Phillips, will explore the intense love story between Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), aka the Joker, and Harleen Quinzel (Gaga), famously known as Harley Quinn.

The other cast members include Zazie Beetz, Brendon Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Jacob Lofland. In 2019, the pervious sequel “Joker”, won the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide and led the 2020 Oscars with 11 nominations. Phoenix also earned the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Arthur Fleck, aka the Joker. 

Ever since the announcement that multi-talented Lady Gaga will be playing the role of Harley Quinn, DC fans have been eagerly anticipating the release. Lady Gaga has also successfully transitioned into Hollywood with critically acclaimed performances in movies like “A Star Is Born” and “House of Gucci”. She was nominated for Best Actress at the 2019 Oscars for her role in “A Star Is Born”, and the movie’s track “Shallow” won the Best Original Song prize.
