Netflix’s Japanese live-action adaption “City Hunter” release date announced

City Hunter

Netflix has unveiled a new trailer for the Japanese live-action film City Hunter, which features Ryōhei Suzuki (HK/Hentai Kamen, Tokyo Tribe, Tokyo MER) stars as Ryō Saeba and Misato Morita (One Week Friends, Koi Suru Haha-tachi) plays the female lead as Kaori Makimura. The film is scheduled for streaming worldwide on Thursday, April 25, 2024, in their streaming services.

Based on Tsukasa Hōjō’s beloved manga of the same name. This is the first movie adaptation of City Hunter to be filmed on the actual streets of Tokyo’s Shinjuku ward, while previous adaptations were filmed in Hong Kong, South Korea, and France. Unlike the anime adaptations, the main character, Saeba, wears his signature long coat from the manga instead of a jacket. Also, the film shifts the setting from the late 20th century to the modern day.

Yuichi Sato (Kisaragi, live-action Nōnai Poison Berry) serves as the film’s director. The screenplay is penned by Tatsuhiro Mishima (live-action Yu Yu Hakusho), and Yoshihide Otomo (INU-OHLupin Zero, live-action Orange) composes the music. Shinichi Takahashi is the executive producer, and Keisuke Sanpei and Kosuke Oshida are producing. Netflix is producing in collaboration with HoriPro and Office Shirous.
