The film follows Dean and his two childhood friends, JT and Wes, who used to pull off pranks gone wrong and invent an imaginary person named Ricky Stanicky as a scapegoat for their mischief. Even after two decades, they still use Ricky as an alibi for their mistakes.
However, their partners become suspicious and demand to meet Ricky. To avoid getting caught, they hire a washed-up actor and celebrity impersonator named “Rock Hard” Rod (played by John Cena) to bring Ricky to life. But when Rod takes the impersonation too far, they regret ever creating Ricky in the first place.
