Prime Video has released the official trailer for a new romantic dramedy called “The Idea of You”. Stars Anne Hathaway as a 40-year-old single mother who unexpectedly falls in love with a 24-year-old boy band star, played by Nicholas Galitzine from “Red, White & Royal Blue”.
In the movie “The Idea of You,” which is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Robinne Lee, the story begins with Solène’s husband (played by Reid Scott) deciding to end their marriage, which means cancelling his plans to go to Coachella with their 16-year-old daughter, Izzy (played by Ella Rubin). While at the festival, Solène meets Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of the popular band August Moon, who is rumored to be inspired by Harry Styles. As an unexpected romance blossoms between the two, Solène must navigate her career, her responsibilities as a mother, and the constant media attention surrounding her new relationship.
The film is directed by Michael Showalter and written by Showalter and Jennifer Westfeldt. Jennifer also serves as an executive producer. Produced by Cathy Schulman through her Welle Entertainment label, Gabrielle Union through her I’ll Have Another banner, Anne Hathaway via her Somewhere Pictures label, Lee, Eric Hayes, Showalter, and Jordana Mollick. Kian Gass of I’ll Have Another will also serve as an executive producer.
Lee previously told Vogue that the book was never intended to be about Harry Styles. Instead, it was meant to be a story about a woman who, at the age of 40, reclaims her sexuality and rediscovers herself. This happens at a point in time when society traditionally writes off women as no longer desirable, viable, or whole.
In addition to Hathaway, Galitzine, Scott, and Rubin, the film also stars Annie Mumolo, Nina Bloomgarden, Raymond Cham, Mathilda Gianopoulos, Jordan Aaron Hall, Chandler Lovelle, Cheech Manohar, Perry Mattfeld, and Meg Millidge.
The Idea of You Rated R premieres May 2 on Prime Video and has its world premiere at SXSW this month.
