‘The Penguin’ Teaser: Colin Farrell’s Penguin Returns in ‘The Batman’ Spinoff

Max’s original series, ‘The Penguin,’ has released its first teaser, which is a spinoff series of the world of the 2022 DC film The Batman. Colin Farrell is back in Gotham City as Oz Cobblepot.

The Penguin

The Penguin is stepping up to lead crime in Gotham City in a series. Throughout the trailer, Farrell gives a classic gangster monologue where he’s seen talking to someone about his childhood and witnessing the death of a mobster called Rex Calabrese, who was a crime boss from the comics introduced in the New 52, and also Selina Kyle’s father, beloved by the people in the comics. The trailer also gives us a glimpse of the violence and gunfights in the seedy underground of Gotham City in between the monologue.

Cobblepot narrates in the trailer: “When I was a kid, there was a gangster, real old-school type. Rex Calabrese. He was a big deal. He helped people. He saw you on the street; he’d call out to you. When I was 14 or something, he has a heart attack and dies, still holding a cigar. In my neighborhood, they throw a parade in his honor. A friggin’ parade. It wasn’t fancy, but it was a gesture, a show of love, of what he meant. Can you imagine to be remembered like that?”

Matt Reeves, directed from The Batman, will serve as an executive producer, while Lauren LeFranc (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) is showrunner. Alongside Reeves, other executive producers include Dylan Clark, Farrell, showrunner Lauren LeFranc, director Craig Zobel and Bill Carraro.

Along with Colin Farrell, the cast joining are Cristin Milioti as Carmine Falcone’s daughter Sofia, Michael Zegen as Carmine’s son Alberto, and Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, one of Gotham’s former top gangsters. The rest of the cast includes Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau, and David H. Holmes.
